HOUSTON — This will be another challenging test for David Price against the slugging Astros here at Minute Maid Park.
Houston leads the American League in extra-base hits (240) and batting average (.277) and is tied with the Yankees for the league-lead in the slugging percentage (.470).
The Astros are second in the AL in runs (374), on-base percentage (.344), OPS (.815) and home runs (106).
In his four starts since returning from an elbow strain, Price has a 5.09 ERA but the opposition is batting just .200 against him. He has surrendered 11 walks in 23 innings.
“I expect to go out there and dominate, to be honest,” Price said after receiving a no-decision against the Philadelphia Phillies this past Tuesday. “I don’t expect anything less. It doesn’t matter how I feel or what’s going on or whatever the circumstances may be. I expect to dominate every fifth day. My mindset has not been altered with the injury or anything else. I expect to go out there and to dominate whoever I’m pitching against.”
Price is 3-0 with a 3.60 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in three career starts (20 innings) at Minute Maid Park. He’s 4-2 with a 2.68 ERA in seven career starts (50 1/3 innings) vs. the Astros.
Jose Altuve is 6-for-17 (.353) in his career vs. Price while Carlos Beltran is 9-for-30 (.300) with two doubles and four RBIs, and Brian McCann is 10-for-29 (.345) with three homers and seven RBIs.
Hanley Ramirez has returned to the lineup after missing the past three games with a pinching sensation in his neck.
